IndiGo Airlines outage impacts several flights, company responds
IndiGo Airlines has confirmed disturbances in the boarding process, check-ins, and ground services at multiple airports.
IndiGo Airlines has been hit with a system-wide outage causing a slowdown in flight operations across the network. Multiple flights are running with delays, while ground services have also been affected. Several users, most of which are stranded at various airports across the country, have reported severe delays in obtaining tickets and boarding passes. At the same time, the airline operator has confirmed disturbances in the boarding process. IndiGo Airlines has confirmed the outage, assuring passengers of help from the ground staff and a quick resolution of the glitch.
“We are currently experiencing a temporary system slowdown across our network, affecting our website and booking system. As a result, customers may face increased wait times, including slower check-ins and longer queues at the airport,” said IndiGo in a statement. “Our airport team is available and fully dedicated to assisting everyone and ensuring a smooth journey. Be assured, we are working diligently to restore stability and normalcy as quickly as possible.”
This is the second outage of such a scale this year, impacting the airline operator’s flight network. In June, a Microsoft bug caused severe disruptions across industries, including flight operations which impacted the services of IndiGo Airlines, among several other airlines. Caused by a misfit code in CrowdStrike’s security protocols for Windows, the outage lasted for roughly a day and led to a chaos as half the world’s PCs and systems stopped responding.
While IndiGo Airlines continues to investigate the causes of the outage, it is currently unclear if it is related to a third party like Windows or a malfunction in the airline’s internal system.
Meanwhile, users have urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to take cognisance of the outage. “@IndiGo6E It’s good to invest in new aircrafts but how about improving the ground services! This is the scene at indigo counters at Bangalore T1 for last one hour. Additional counters are required, disturbing to see old people suffering @DGCAIndia please notice,” wrote a user on X (formerly Twitter) with a photo of the T1 terminal’s concourse at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
