Google Chrome bug: Indian government's cyber security wing, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In), has issued a warning to all Google Chrome users in the country. The organisation has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in Google's Chrome web browser that can lead to malicious hackers gaining access to users' private data.

The cyber-security watchdog has issued a warning to inform all Google Chrome users in India about the vulnerabilities and steps that they can take to mitigate the risks posed by these vulnerabilities.

"Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome, which could allow a remote hacker to cause Denial of Service (DoS) condition and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system," Cert-In wrote in its warning.

"These vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Type Confusion in V8 and Heap buffer overflow in Skia. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted request on the targeted system," the cyber-security watchdog added.

What Google Chrome versions are affected by this bug?

In its advisory, Cert-In also highlighted the Chrome versions that are affected by these bugs. The list includes Google Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.113/114 for Windows, versions prior to 128.0.6613.113/114 for Mac and versions prior to 128.0.6613.113 for Linux.

How will Google Chrome users be affected by this bug?

As mentioned before, the Google Chrome bugs highlighted by Cert-In can let hackers run arbitrary codes on users' devices. This, in turn, will let hackers gain access to users' private data such as their banking details and passwords.

How can Google Chrome users protect themselves?

Google has already released updates to fix these bugs on Google Chrome. Chrome users can download Chrome version 128.0.6613.113/.114 on Windows and Mac and version 128.0.6613.113 on Linux to protect themselves from these bugs.
