Google's Sundar Pichai to HP's Enrique Lores: What are tech CEOs saying about meeting with PM Modi
Responding to PM Modi's clarion call, Google and Alphabet Inc CEO Sundar Pichai said that his company was 'robustly investing in AI in India'.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met CEOs and executives of top tech companies at the CEOs Roundtable in New York today. During the event, PM Modi hailed technology as one of the key pillars of India's growth and called upon the companies to be a part of India's growth story. Responding to PM Modi's clarion call, Google and Alphabet Inc CEO Sundar Pichai said that his company was 'robustly investing in AI in India' and that it planned to expand its efforts in future.
"The PM has been focused on transforming India. It is Digital India vision. He pushed us to continue making in India, designing in India...We are robustly investing in AI in India and we look forward to doing more. We have set several programs and partnerships," Google CEO said after his meeting with PM Modi.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang echoed his thoughts. After the CEOs Roundtable, he said that he was looking forward to partnering with India deeply. "Artificial Intelligence is also a new industry, a new manufacturing industry that is very important. So, I am looking forward to partnering with India in a very deep way to make that possible," he said.
Biogen CEO Chris Viehbacher hailed PM Modi's inclusive approach towards technology. "I think the PM has a vision that the 21st century is driven by technology and clearly wants to have India front and centre in the progress of technology," Viehbacher said.
"One of the things I liked that he said was we want to have technology being inclusive. So, this is for the broader population and as someone in biotechnology, technology can play an important role in better healthcare for Indians," he added.
Similarly, Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks said that his company would scale the products for conditions such as obesity and diabetes and partner with more Indian companies.
"We have already a large research-based centre in India. We plan to grow that. More importantly, the products we make, particularly for common conditions like obesity, diabetes which inflict so many Indians - we will be bringing to this market at scale, partnering with other Indian companies," Ricks said after the CEOs Roundtable.
