Elon Musk reacted sharply to the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump through a controversial post on X (formerly Twitter). In a post, Musk expressed his dismay at the incident and wondered about the lack of similar attempts on Trump’s rival Kamala Harris and the current US President Joe Biden.

“And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” said Musk in a post, which several users said was insensitive even if the world’s richest man has openly supported Donald Trump, the former US President and a Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential Elections. Trump’s post was a response to a viral question on X, which reads “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?”

The second attempt to kill Donald Trump took place near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, which is about 15 minutes away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. The gunman was immediately spotted by Secret Services agents lurking behind the bushes. The agents reportedly opened fire as soon as they found the gunman and an AK-47-style assault rifle with him. The gunman, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, is now under custody, while his social media profiles and posts are also being erased.

While Musk’s remarks have met criticism, responses from Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Presiden Joe Biden are receiving applause. “Violence has no place in America,” said Harris on X, responding to the shooting incident. On the other hand, Biden, who is not running for the elections this time, lauded the efforts of federal law enforcement in ensuring Trump’s safety as he escaped the assassination attempt unharmed. “There is no place for political violence or any violence ever in our country,” he said on X.

X owner Musk has confirmed time and again that he is backing Trump in the upcoming elections. Recently, he criticised global popstar Taylor Swift for supporting Harris through a cheeky post. “Fine Taylor… you win… I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” he wrote while replying to Swift’s support message for Harris in which she called herself a “childless cat lady.”
