YouTube Shorts is getting 3-minute-long video support
YouTube today announced that it is rolling out support for 3-minute-long videos in YouTube Shorts. It is also rolling out new video-creation tools for creators.
YouTube Shorts update: YouTube is making its Shorts longer. The company today announced that soon creators will be able to share Shorts that are up to three minutes long on YouTube. Until now, YouTube enabled users to share up to 60 seconds long Shorts on its platform. However, starting October 15, users will be able to share longer-videos on the platform.
YouTube said that these changes will apply to videos that are square or have a taller aspect ratio and that video shared on the platform before October 15 will not be affected by this change.
In addition to this, YouTube has announced a host of new tools for YouTube Shorts creators. The company said that it is rolling out a new Remix feature to Shorts that will enable users to use existing Shorts as templates and create their own videos based on them.
YouTube also said that in the coming months, it will roll out a tool that will make it easier for the Shorts creators to remix clips from various videos to create a new Short.
"In the coming months, you’ll be able to tap into the vast universe of YouTube content right from your Shorts camera, making it easier to remix clips from your favorite videos, music videos, and more. You’ll even be able to pull from multiple clips across YouTube," the company wrote in a blog post.
YouTube is also bringing support for Veo to YouTube Shorts. Veo is an AI-powered video-creation tool that enables users to create high-quality videos of 1080p resolution in a wide-variety of styles. For the unversed, Google had announced Shorts back in May this year. At the time, it was available to select users. Now, months later, the company is making it available to all YouTube Shorts creators.
"... Veo, is coming to YouTube Shorts. Creators will be able to bring their ideas to life with even more extraordinary video backgrounds and standalone video clips, making your Shorts even dreamier later this year," the company added.
Lastly, YouTube is making changes to its mobile app making Shorts more accessible to the users. The company said that it is adding a new Shorts trends page to the YouTube mobile app. It is also bringing a preview of users' comments on a short to the Shorts feed.
