Telegram app gets new tools for reporting content, NFT support
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has announced new features coming to the app. The list includes support for NFTs and a new interface for video chats on iOS.
Telegram app update: Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has announced a bunch of new features coming to the app including the support for Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs. Durov, in a post on his official Telegram channel, said that the app is getting support for Gifts, some of which will be available in limited supply. He also said that users will be able to convert these limited supply gifts into NFTs based on the company's TON blockchain.
“Some gifts are in limited supply. Later this year we’ll introduce the ability to convert these limited-edition gifts into TON-based NFTs. Users will then be able to auction and trade these tokenized gifts outside Telegram, with ownership recorded on the blockchain,” Durov wrote in his post on Telegram.
For the unversed, Gifts is a new feature coming to Telegram. Gifts are a new way for Telegram users to congratulate other users on the platform and they are displayed in the app with animated artwork and custom messages. Telegram says that gifts can be turned into stars, which can be further used for in-app purchases.
Users can either display the gifts that they received in the Gifts tab of their profiles or discard them in exchange for some Stars to spend elsewhere.
Telegram users can send a gift by opening the profile of the person with whom they want to share the gift and tap the three dots menu on the top to access the Send a Gift option. Telegram users can also add a custom message or an emoji before sending a gift.
New content reporting tools
As mentioned before, Telegram has also added new tools to report content on its platform. In a blog post, Telegram said that the reporting menu has been expanded to add more detailed category options including Illegal Goods, Personal Data, Terrorism, Copyright, Violence and Scam or Spam.
Telegram says that this list is now dynamically updated from the company's servers, which enables it to suggest the most relevant reporting reasons in real-time.
Redesigned Video Chats interface on iOS
Telegram has also redesigned its interface for video chats on iOS 'to increase performance and improve battery life'. Telegram says that with this update, iPhones will now stay cooler on long calls even when there are multiple video feeds from dozens of participants.
The company, in its blog, also said that the updated video chats feature will also enable users to share their screens on the platform.
