Apple to roll out iOS 18 today: Top 5 features, eligible iPhone models

Apple will begin rolling out iOS 18 update to all supported iPhone models today. It will bring an updated Control Centre and a new Passwords app to iPhones.

iOS 18 roll out: After launching the iPhone 16 series last week, Apple will start rolling out iOS 18, its next-gen mobile operating system, to all supported iPhone models today. The iOS 18 will bring a host of new features including the ability to schedule messages, the Passwords app, transcription summaries, a redesigned Control Centre and support for RCS to iPhones. iOS 18 will also bring Apple Intelligence to the supported iPhone models. However, its official roll out is expected to begin sometime in October with the launch of iOS 18.2.

While Apple hasn't confirmed the exact time of roll out yet, going by the trend, iOS 18 roll out is expected to begin at 10:30PM today.

iOS 18 update: Top 5 features

Here are top five iOS 18 features that you shouldn't miss:

-- Image Playground will let users create new images, remix existing images, and turn rough sketches into images.

-- Siri will get on-screen awareness and personal context understanding. Additionally, Siri will be able to take in-app actions in Apple and third-party apps.

-- The search feature in the Photos app will bring support for natural language queries and a Clean Up tool that will remove distracting images from an image. It will also get a new Collections section that will automatically organise the library into collections of photos based on themes.

-- The iMessages app is getting support for RCS technology and the schedule send feature. This app will also let users send messages with images up to 100MB in weight, which will let users share images with a higher resolution. Additionally, the iMessages app is also getting support for the ability to send messages over satellite connectivity.

-- The Notes app is getting the ability to record audio, convert a phone conversation into text, live transcribe an audio in a conversation or a lecture the recordings and highlighting words in a PDF file.
