Apple Intelligence close to launch with iOS 18.1 rollout

Apple is getting closer to launching its next significant iPhone update, iOS 18.1. It will come with Apple Intelligence, Apple's response to Galaxy AI and Google AI. Apple Intelligence was unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference and was not included in the initial iOS 18 release, which started rolling out earlier this month. Instead, Apple decided to refine its AI capabilities and postpone the release until later this year. That time is almost here.

In addition to Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.1 will also bring notable improvements to the iPhone software. While not every iOS 18-compatible iPhone model will support the upcoming iOS 18.1 features, the latest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineups will be eligible. Here is a list of all the generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) capabilities coming to eligible iPhone devices.

Writing tools: Apple Intelligence will offer various tools to allow users to proofread, rewrite, or reformat text.

Memory movie in Photos: The Apple Photos app will gain movie-making capabilities through a description that will work as an AI prompt.

Clean up in Photos: This tool will let users remove unwanted objects and people from photos using AI.

Notification summaries: AI will summarise notifications to offer insights and actionable prompts.

Priority messages in Mail: The Mail app will show important emails on top of others with tools to take immediate action.

Natural language in Photos: The Photos app will also let users look for the right photos and videos using search.

Siri: Apple ’s digital voice assistant Siri will gain AI capabilities that will allow users to look for complex answers through text and voice inputs. But more importantly, Siri will get a refreshed look where it will illuminate the borders of the iPhone screen instead of the bottom-centred animation.

Smart Reply in Mail and Messages: The Mail and Messages apps will also feature a Smart Reply option that will offer users suggestions based on the context of an email or a message.
