Google Maps, Search get new AI features, Gemini Live gets support for 9 Indian languages
Google today hosted the Google for India 2024 event today. At the event, the company announced AI powered features for Google Maps and Google Search.
Google for India 2024: Google hosted the 10th edition of Google for India 2024 event in India today. At the event, the company announced updates to its generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based mobile chatbot, Gemini Live. The company today announced that it is rolling out support for Hindi to Gemini Live. It also said that Gemini Live will get support for eight more Indian languages soon. The Indian languages that Gemini Live will support in the coming days include Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Urdu.
For the unversed, Google had first introduced Gemini Live in August this year. However, at the time, Gemini Live was available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers and it supported just English. Now, almost two months later, the company has rolled out support for Hindi, with support for eight more languages rolling out soon.
Google Search gets new AI powered features
Google also announced updates to Google Search's AI Overview feature today. The company had first announced AI Overview feature at Google I/O earlier this year. At the time, AI Overview was available only in English. Today at its Google for India event, the company announced that AI Overview will get support for Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the company announced support for video-based queries in Google Lens. "Soon, you will be able to use Lens to search with a video and ask more complex questions about things in motion," the company wrote in a blog explaining the feature.
Google Maps gets new AI powered features
Lastly, Google announced two new AI-powered features coming to Google Maps. Firstly, the company announced that it is adding two more weather-related alerts in India. The company said that Maps will alert users if they are driving in an area with low visibility or if a heavy downpour has impacted the route that they are about to take.
Another feature coming to Maps will enable users to get summaries about restaurant recommendations. These summaries will not only recommend places but also specific items and experiences.
