Virat Kohli has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point for a heated exchange with Australian debutant Sam Konstas during Day 1 of the fourth Test in Melbourne. The altercation after the 10th over-involved Kohli shoulder-bumping the 19-year-old while switching sides between overs.
The exchange drew criticism from former players, with Ricky Ponting holding Kohli responsible and Ravi Shastri calling the act “absolutely unnecessary” during a discussion on SEN.
ICC Code of Conduct
According to ICC regulations:
“Any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. This includes deliberate, reckless, or negligent actions like walking or running into or shoulder-bumping another player or umpire.”
Match referee Andy Pycroft deemed Kohli’s actions a Level One offence, resulting in a fine and a demerit point.
