President Donald Trump, in his inaugural address on Monday,  vowed to leave a legacy as a “peace maker and unifier” while pledging to strengthen the United States’ military like never before. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Trump stressed that his goal was not only to build the strongest military in history but also to avoid conflicts and bring an end to ongoing wars.

“We will again build the strongest military the world has ever seen. But we will measure our success not just by the battles we win, but by the wars we end — and perhaps most importantly, by the wars we never get into,” Trump declared.

Trump calls for reversal

In his speech, Trump took sharp jabs at the outgoing Democratic administration, accusing it of betraying the American people. He promised a fresh start, vowing to dismantle what he described as a “radical and corrupt establishment” that had drained power and wealth from the nation. “All of this will change starting today,” he said, setting the tone for his presidency.

He outlined several executive actions aimed at addressing immigration issues, revamping energy policies, and dismantling government-mandated diversity programs. Additionally, he restated his commitment to changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” and revisiting the Panama Canal issue. He also hinted at plans for territorial expansion and boosting American wealth, which has raised concerns amongst US allies, particularly with his previous remarks about acquiring Greenland and even considering Canada as the 51st state.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a powerful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by opera singer Christopher Macchio. President Trump saluted as the national anthem played, marking the end of a day that saw the beginning of his second term in office.
