Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Epigamia, passed away on December 21 at the age of 40, reportedly due to a heart attack.
A graduate of NYU Stern and Wharton School, Mirchandani co-founded Drums Food International in 2013, which owns Epigamia, one of India’s leading Greek yogurt brands. The company recorded sales of ₹168 crore in FY23, reflecting its significant growth under his leadership.

Drums Food expressed deep sorrow at the loss, stating, "Rohan was not only a visionary leader but also an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering commitment, boundless energy, and deep passion for Epigamia have left an indelible mark on all of us. We will work closely with the leadership of the company to take Rohan’s legacy to greater heights,” a joint statement by the company's board said.
Rohan Mirchandani: Leadership Transition
Epigamia’s operations will be managed by its senior leadership, including Ankur Goel (COO) and Uday Thakker (Co-founder), with support from the board, Rohan’s family, and investors like Verlinvest and DSG Consumer Partners.
"The senior leadership of Epigamia, led by Ankur Goel (COO & Founding Member) and Uday Thakker (Cofounder & Director), continues to steer the company’s day-to-day operations with the full support of the Board of Directors, including Rohan’s family, Raj Mirchandani, Verlinvest, and DSG Consumer Partners," the spokesperson added.
Inspiration Behind Drums Food
Mirchandani’s entrepreneurial journey began after an inspiring lecture at Wharton in 2011 by Shripad Nadkarni, former Coca-Cola marketing head, who predicted the rise of independent FMCG brands in India. This vision drove Mirchandani to establish Drums Food two years later.
Epigamia gained popularity with its flavored Greek yogurt, appealing to urban consumers. In 2019, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone joined investors like Danone Manifesto Ventures and Verlinvest to support the brand during its Series C funding round.
Rohan Mirchandani’s contributions to India’s FMCG sector and entrepreneurial ecosystem have left an indelible mark. His vision for innovation and excellence will continue to inspire the industry and his team at Epigamia.
