In April 2019, there was a devastating fire in the cathedral where it got burned down to ashes. The Notre-Dame cathedral is 860 years old and is synonymous to France and Paris.
Over the years, it has been restored with a new spire, rib vaulting, flying buttresses, and the original carved stone gargoyles brought back to their former beauty.
Why Is This Reopening Important?
The reopening is important not just for Catholics, but for the simple fact that it adds to the cultural value of France and is of historic significance. It is a medieval Gothic monument and also happens to be one of the most visited landmarks of France, with approximately 13 million tourists visiting it annually, which is more than the number of tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower.
