'Leather-Free For Life...' Humans Of Bombay CEO Karishma Mehta's Gesture Is Viral

Karishma Mehta, founder, and CEO of the popular platform called Humans of Bombay (HOB), has shared a post wherein she announced her step towards cruelty-free fashion.

She revealed her decision to part ways with all her luxury leather goods as she pledges to avoid purchasing leather products and leading a kind and cruelty-free future.

Mehta posted on Instagram, "As little girls growing up, we’re conditioned to look at glossy magazines filled with beautiful images of the ideal looking woman. As we grow older we start circling our “dream bag” and “dream shoes” and dream of the walk-in closet like in Princess Diaries.

It’s great to dream- I’m the flag bearer of dreaming big, working hard, and smashing every goal to get there.

However, it’s only recently that I have come to realise that so much of what I subscribed to in terms of materialism rests on a fundamentally flawed premise:

As a vegetarian, I won’t eat meat because it doesn’t sit right with me to consume a living being. How then can it sit well with me to partake in a market that prides itself on being “luxury” by levying their premium-ness on the quality of the animal being skinned?

It doesn’t."

Mehta's Decision Embraces Leather Free Life

In the post, she further wrote, "As I have arrived at the decision to not only stop the purchase of leather of any kind, it guts to me use the leather that I may have already purchased.

In the weeks to come, I will begin a sale of all my leather items- the proceeds of which will go towards animal welfare NGOs.

We are here on this planet for a finite time- what every spiritual text or religious sermon I’ve attended has taught me is that kindness and love is the only way.

I hope this little action opens your eyes to it- dream still, think of conquering your biggest dream still- relentlessly, equivocally. But do it with heart, do it with kindness. 🌍🩵
