'I Want To... Kidnap You' - Gurugram Resident Spooked by Uber Driver’s Chilling Message - Post
A Gurugram resident’s ride-booking turned into a nightmare when he/she received a bizarre and terrifying message from the Uber driver.
A ride-booking incident in Gurugram left a resident shaken and scrambling for safety on Saturday morning. Reddit user kushpyro1 recounted his/ her terrifying experience on the platform’s r/Gurgaon forum, describing a chilling message they received from their Uber driver: “I want to kidnap you.”
The user, preparing for an early morning train journey, booked an Uber Priority Sedan to Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT) Station. However, just moments before the driver arrived, they were left shocked and panicked.
“I am shivering while I am actually writing this right now,” the user shared in their post. “I have a train in 1 hour and God knows if I will reach there on time.”
According to the Reddit post, the user had texted the driver about their destination before heading downstairs with their luggage.
“When he was about to arrive, I thought to check the OTP and flashed open my Uber chat, where the driver sent me a bizarre message,” wrote the user. The message read: “I want to kidnap you.”
In a state of panic, the user immediately attempted to cancel the ride. However, the driver, identified as Chandan with vehicle number DL1RTC7994 (a Maruti Suzuki Dzire), cancelled the ride first. The Redditor managed to capture a screenshot of the conversation before the cancellation.
“I don’t know what impulse kicked into me… but I thought to cancel the cab,” they explained. “I ran back into the house with my luggage.”
A Possible Autocorrect Mishap?
The Reddit post quickly gained traction, with other users weighing in on the situation. While some suggested it could have been a sinister intention, others speculated that the bizarre message might have been an autocorrect error.
One user commented, “Drop would have got autocorrected to kidnap. When the driver understood his mistake, I guess he got frightened and hence cancelled the ride and bolted.”
However, they also raised an important concern: “The real point of concern is that any guy has to use the word ‘kidnap’ very frequently to get an autocorrect recommendation.”
Another commenter reassured the original poster (OP), writing, “Yeah OP, it looks like autocorrect gone wrong. But good thing you took another cab. This was freaky (sic).”
