External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, on Thursday said that Donald Trump's return as US President is an opportunity for India. In a meeting with world leaders and CEOs in Sydney, Jaishankar spoke about the key areas where Trump's election will have an impact.

“There was already a reordering of supply chains, and this will accelerate. Some of it will be disruptive, but we perceive it as an opportunity…the reordering of supply chains gives us a bite of the apple now because we missed the manufacturing bus before," he said.

S Jaishankar in Australia: We will be moving to an ‘integrated global workplace’ - EAM

Jaishankar, who also met CEOs and business leaders in Sydney also spoke about an integrated and global economy. "We will be moving, perhaps in the next few years, to a much more integrated global workplace that many countries, including even the United States," he said. “Economically justified mobility will have to be fostered by those where the economic value is less or negative (and) will have to be managed,” he further added.

He also advised the gathering of the CEOs to prepare for this different world, a world of AI, a world of EV, a world of really greener services and greener products, and invited them to India for a firsthand experience. “Even as there is a re-globalization, or reworking of the current architecture, apart from the technological changes, I think, the demographic unevenness of the world is beginning to bite us,” he said.

Talking about workforce mobility, he said it is up to the companies to retain top talent. “It will be the corporates that will decide whether the talent goes to the business, or the business goes to the talent,” he said.

Underlining the India-Australia strategic partnership, Jaishankar said that the robust business and investment linkages between the two countries are key drivers of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Later, Jaishankar also met members of the Indian diaspora, MPs and friends of India at New South Wales Parliament in Sydney.
