Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce that President-elect Donald Trump has appointed him and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump's statement said that Musk and Ramaswamy "will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies."

The newly minted department has been in talks among the Republicans for a while, and the 2024 election victory is facilitating them to realise the same. The circular also read that Musk and Ramaswamy will "provide advice and guidance from outside of government," indicating that Musk and Ramaswamy's roles would be outside of official appointments.
Trump's agenda behind the appointment is to ensure greater efficiency in the government's working, "2026-A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence." said Trump's circular. Musk and Ramaswamy's work to conclude by July 4, 2026.
Vivek Ramaswamy had dropped out of presidential race earlier.
