Delhi Temperature Today: National Capital Shivers, IMD Issues Weather Update Today

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi's Weather, citing light to moderate rainfall. The IMD has issued the alert for all of Delhi, with no exceptions.

“District Nowcast for Delhi Date and Time of Issue: 27.12.2024 1130 IST Valid Till: 27.12.2024 1400 IST Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm over entire Delhi.” IMD posted on X.

What Is Orange Alert?

The orange alert is sounded as a warning in the case of extremely bad weather, with the potential of disruption in commute with road and rail closures, and interruption of power supply.

The IMD published a table that gave the exact amount of rainfall experienced location-wise in Delhi. Palam experienced maximum rainfall at 11.3 mm.

IMD Predictions For Winter

During the upcoming winter season (December 2024 to February 2025), above-normal minimum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country, as predicted by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

"During the season above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except most areas over south Peninsular India, where normal to below-normal maximum temperatures are likely." said IMD  in a press release.

IMD Predicts: Below-Normal Cold Wave?

Below-normal cold wave days are expected over most parts of the northwest, central, east, and northeast parts of the country during the upcoming winter season (December 2024 to February 2025).
Monthly maximum temperatures for December 2024 are likely to be above normal over most parts of the country except some areas of central India where normal maximum temperatures are likely.

IMD Predicts: Winter Rainfall More Than Usual?

Monthly rainfall for December 2024 over the South Peninsular India consisting of five meteorological subdivisions (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe and South Interior Karnataka) is most likely to be above-normal (greater than 131per cent of Long Period Average (LPA)).
