The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur corridor under Delhi Metro's Phase-IV. Spanning 26.463 kilometers, this corridor will enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana and is scheduled for completion within four years.
Project Overview and Cost
The project, estimated at Rs. 6,230 crore, will be implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), a 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle between the Government of India (GoI) and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). The line will extend the existing Red Line from Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) to Rithala.
Key Highlights of the Corridor
Connectivity: The corridor will connect areas in north-west Delhi like Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini.
Stations: The stretch will include 21 elevated stations, such as Narela DDA Sports Complex and Nathupur.
Interstate Link: It will link Shaheed Sthal in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, to Nathupur in Haryana, enhancing the National Capital Region's connectivity.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The project is expected to boost the region’s economy, reduce traffic congestion, and help lower vehicular pollution. The elevated road project and the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro line will provide residents with better transit options and shorter commutes.
