Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92
Despite the concerted efforts of the medical team, Dr Singh could not be revived and was declared dead at 9.51 PM.
Former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. Dr Singh, who had been battling age-related health issues, experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at his residence earlier today.
Immediate resuscitative measures were administered, and he was quickly rushed to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi, at 8:06 PM, the hospital said in a bulletin.

With profound grief, we inform the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26 December 2024, Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.

Dr Singh’s contributions to India’s economic growth are legendary. As the architect of India’s economic liberalisation in the 1990s, he played a crucial role in transforming the country’s economy and steering it towards globalisation.
He first rose to prominence as the Union Finance Minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s government in 1991 and later served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, where he was recognised for his calm demeanor and principled leadership.
Dr Singh, born on September 26, 1932, in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India, was a distinguished economist. He served as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance in 1972 and was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985 before becoming the Finance Minister.
Dr Manmohan Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha in April 2024, marking the end of a remarkable 33-year tenure.
