Bengaluru Man Leaves Rs 1 Crore Job; Shares Reason - Post

The Indian X.com community got a shocker On December 5 when a tech professional from Bengaluru tweeted that he left his Rs 1 core job without any backup plans. Varun Hasija, a tech professional, made the decision to leave his Rs 1 crore-plus annual salary job without another offer in hand.
Sharing his journey on Twitter, Hasija opened up about his reasons, the framework guiding his career choices, and the insights he gained along the way. The post garnered attention from all spectrum of X users with 247 thousand impression on the post.
Why Bengaluru Man Leaves Rs 1 Crore Job?
Hasija’s previous role in the edtech sector saw challenges that impacted his priorities. He candidly stated that while wealth creation (P2) was intact, the other two—happiness and impact—were missing.
“EdTech as an industry had already been struggling,” he explained. “The focus gradually shifted from service to survival. Internal dynamics started to change, and maintaining appearances often took precedence over meaningful work.”
The realisation that he wasn’t ready to “master that game” led to his decision to move on, despite the stability and prestige associated with his role.
Framework: Happiness, Impact, and Wealth Creation
The X.com user shared that the decision to step away was not impulsive but stemmed from a deeply considered framework he follows for his career decisions. He calls it “P0, P1, and P2” – his priorities in descending order of importance:
Happiness: “Out of the 24 hours we have in a day, we spend ~80 per cent of our conscious hours at work. If your workplace doesn’t bring you bliss, excitement, or joy, is it even worth it?” For Hasija, happiness at work is non-negotiable, a principle he describes as essential for everything else to function.
Impact: The value of his work—whether for customers, the business, or both—keeps him motivated. “I’ll happily spend hours solving a business client’s issue to unlock millions in revenue or lead a team to launch a potential cash-cow feature. Impact keeps me going,” he shared.
Wealth Creation: While Hasija acknowledges the importance of financial growth, he insists it should be fair. Whether it is ESOPs in a promising startup or bonuses from a cash-rich firm, he believes in earning wealth proportionate to the value he creates.
Life After Corporate Stability
Since resigning, Hasija has focused on his personal well-being and rediscovered joy in simple pleasures like cooking and spending time with his wife. “I don’t set alarms before I go to sleep and wake up slow,” he shared, describing his newfound routine.
Professionally, he has been consulting for startups, working on side projects in adtech, and exploring opportunities abroad in Europe, the UK, and Australia.
“We started building our careers 10 years back, in the hope of having a better life... But somewhere in the middle, we kind of lost that track. It’s important to take a break, pause, and reflect on the life that you’ve built.”
His decision to step away from a high-paying job without a safety net resonates with many young professionals questioning the meaning of career success in a fast-changing world. As Hasija summed up: “This isn’t the end of the story... Not sure where I’ll end up six months from now, but it’s gonna be a fun ride.”
