Vistara operated its last flight under its own brand today before it merges with Air India tomorrow. This would bring down the number of full service carriers in India to one from five within 17 years.
Singapore Airlines will get a 25.1% stake in Air India after this merger. This will be yet another airline that will be co-owned by a foreign carrier after the liberalisation of Foreign Direct Investment norms.
Merger With Air India
The Air India Group has lately announced several changes in its management.
Among these changes Vinod Kannan, Vistara's Chief Executive Officer and Chief Integration Officer will continue in the latter role and join Air India's Management Committee, reporting to CEO Campbell Wilson. Additionally, Deepak Rajawat, Chief Commercial Officer of Vistara will become the Chief Financial Officer of Air India Express, post its expansion and will report to CEO Aloke Singh.
Commenting on the changes Campbell Wilson said, "Over the past two years, the Tata airlines have worked diligently on one of the most complex merger in aviation history, consolidating from four airlines to two amidst dramatic growth and transformation. We're pleased to formalize a Group leadership that draws from all four legacy airlines as we enter the next phase of our journey."
The CEO also expressed gratitude to the employees that were retiring or transitioning within the Tata Group and recognized their contributions to the future of Air India.
How Is Club Vistara Transitioning?
According to media reports, Club Vistara members will be assigned new Flying Returns IDs. Their membership details will automatically be transferred, enabling a seamless transfer of membership details.
Existing members with Flying Returns accounts can authorise Air India to transfer their Club Vistara data, allowing a smooth transfer of data. For those without accounts, Air India will create one using the details from their Club Vistara account.
Erstwhile Club Vistara (CV) points will also be integrated into Air India's system.
