Struggling to access your EPF account? It can be because of wrong member ID linked to your UAN. The good news is that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation ( EPFO ) has introduced a simple way to fix this issue online.

What’s the problem?

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit identifier that brings together all your EPF accounts. However, mistakes such as incorrect member IDs or multiple UANs can complicate things, making it difficult to track contributions or withdraw funds.

To resolve this, EPFO now allows employees to delink any wrongly associated member IDs through an easy online process.

What you need to do before delinking

Before beginning the process, ensure that your Aadhaar -linked mobile number is active and accessible, as it will be required for OTP verification. Additionally, take the time to carefully review and verify your details to avoid any further errors during the delinking process.

How to delink the wrong member ID

  • Visit the EPFO Member Portal. Log in using your UAN, password, and captcha code.
  • After logging in, head to the “View” menu and select “Service History.” This will display all the member IDs linked to your UAN.
  • Identify the incorrect member ID and click the “Delink” option next to it.
  • A pop-up will appear asking for confirmation. Click “OK” to proceed.
  • On the next page, select why you want to delink the ID.
  • Tick the required consent boxes and request an OTP, which will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP to complete the process.
  • Once verified, you’ll see a success message, and the delinked ID will no longer appear in your service history.

EPFO reports membership spike
