Free Aadhaar Update Deadline Extended: See Last Date; How To Apply Online
UIDAI extends the free Aadhaar update service until June 2025, allowing users to update their details online without charge.
Yet to update your Aadhaar? No worries, in a major relief to millions of Aadhaar cardholders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension for the free Aadhaar update service until June 14, 2025.
Originally scheduled to end on December 14, 2024, this extension gives people one last chance to update their details without incurring any charges. Whether it's a change in your address, name, or any other detail, you can now update your Aadhaar for free using the myAadhaar portal!
This service has already been extended multiple times—first from June 14, 2024, to September 14, 2024, and then again to December 14, 2024.
Why should you update your Aadhaar?
Updating your Aadhaar details is essential for hassle-free access to government schemes, financial services, and more. For children who got their Aadhaar before the age of five, remember that biometric details need to be updated twice—once after turning five and again at age 15. Neglecting these updates can cause issues when you need to authenticate your identity.
How to update your Aadhaar online
- Visit the Official Portal- Head to the Aadhaar Self-Service portal on UIDAI’s official website.
- Log In- Enter your Aadhaar number, Captcha code, and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Select Document Update- Go to the ‘Document Update’ section and check your existing details.
- Upload Documents- Choose the document you want to update, upload scanned copies, and submit them for verification.
- Track the Process- After submitting, note down the service request number to monitor the progress of your update.
What to do for biometric updates?
If your update involves biometrics (fingerprints, iris scans, or photos), you will need to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Sewa Kendra. The offline process includes:
- Form Submission- Download and fill the update form from the UIDAI website.
- Submit Documents- Bring along the necessary documents for verification.
- Biometric Verification- Complete the biometric process at the centre.
- Track Your Update- You’ll receive an acknowledgment slip with a URN to track the status.
Don’t wait until the last minute! The free update window is open till June 2025, but it’s best to take action sooner rather than later. Make sure your Aadhaar details are accurate and up-to-date to avoid any future issues.
