Stock Market LIVE: Sensex Falls 236 Pts, Nifty Ends Below 24,600; Adani Stocks, Tech Mahindra Among

The Nifty closed at 24,538.85, down 102.95 points (-0.42%), after opening higher at 24,604.45. Top gainers on the index included Adani Enterprises, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Ports. On the losing side were NTPC, Hindustan Unilever, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, and BPCL.

The Sensex followed a similar trend, ending the day at 81,289.96, down 236.18 points (-0.29%), after opening at 81,476.76. Major gainers on the Sensex included Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Adani Ports, TCS, Power Grid, JSW Steel, and HCL Tech. However, key laggards were M&M, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma, Titan, Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and NTPC.

NBCC has bagged construction orders worth Rs 9,445 crore across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Karnataka. However, the stock fell over 1%.

Adani Green Energy shares surged 9% today as the company commissioned a 250 MW solar power project in Badi Sid, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan.

The index reverses momentum, falling more than 1% from the day's high to trade in the red after 14 consecutive sessions of gains.

SEBI has issued an administrative warning letter to HDFC Bank, alleging non-compliance with provisions of SEBI (Merchant Bankers) Regulations, 1992, SEBI (ICDR) Regulations, 2018, and SEBI (PIT) Regulations, 2015. As of today, HDFC Bank's share is trading at Rs 1852.50, down by Rs11.20 (-0.60%).

Reliance Power's stock surged 5%, hitting the upper circuit limit of Rs 46.24 per share, following an announcement that its subsidiary, Reliance NU Suntech, secured a 930 MW solar energy project. The contract, awarded by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) through an e-reverse auction, involves a tariff of Rs 3.53 per kWh. The project also includes the installation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a minimum capacity of 465 MW/1,860 MWh, powered by solar energy.

Acme Solar Holdings has secured a 250 MW Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project in an e-reverse auction held by NHPC at a tariff of Rs 4.56 per unit. The project includes a green-shoe option that could expand its capacity up to 500 MW. With this win, Acme Solar's total capacity now reaches 6,970 MW. The stock is currently trading at Rs 272.10, up by 1.49%.

Adani Green Energy's subsidiary has successfully commissioned a 250 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan. With this addition, the company’s total operational renewable energy capacity now stands at 11,434 MW. Today, the stock opened at Rs 1141.30 and, as of 12:15 PM, was trading at Rs 1226.10, up by Rs 78.00, marking a 6.79% increase. 

Bajaj Housing Finance shares witnessed a sharp drop of over 6% in early morning trade today. The stock opened nearly 1% lower and plunged to an intraday low of Rs 132.80, marking a 6.08% decline from its previous close.

Rekha Jhunjhunwala backed Inventurus Knowledge Solutions was at a high of about Rs 400 on 12th December, 2024 as per a market tracker website.

Waaree Energies' share price climbed after the company announced securing a significant contract to develop a 170 MW solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh. The project was awarded by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, reflecting Waaree's growing footprint in the renewable energy sector.

Shares of Gland Pharma surged 5% after the company received FDA approval for its phytonadione injectable emulsion USP, 10 mg/mL, in single-dose ampoules. The product is bioequivalent to Hospira Inc.'s vitamin K1 injectable emulsion and is used to treat coagulation disorders stemming from vitamin K deficiencies.

Within an hour of the market opening, the Sensex displayed mixed signals. After starting flat at 81,476.76, the index is currently trading at 81,497.28, down by 28.86 points or 0.04%.

Shriram Finance shares gained attention as the company sold its 84.44% stake in Shriram Housing Finance to Warburg Pincus for Rs3,929 crore. Today, The stock opened at Rs 3,248.60 and traded at Rss3,255.50 (+0.25%) as of 9:45 AM.

Smallcap and midcap stocks have achieved their 15th consecutive day of gains, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 index increasing by 0.25% and the Nifty Midcap 100 rising by 0.15%.

The BSE Sensex opened 49.38 points, or 0.06%, lower at 81,476.76. Similarly, the Nifty50 started on a flat down with 37.35 points, or 0.15%, at 24,604.45.
