Stock Market LIVE: Nifty Below 24,400; Sensex Slips 900 Points

On Monday, Indian markets ended in the red, with Sensex and Nifty falling 0.47%. Top gainers included IndusInd Bank and Dr Reddy’s. Paytm surged past Rs 1,000, while Vedanta announced its fourth interim dividend of Rs 8.5 per share, totalling Rs 16,799 crore for FY25.

The stock markets opened lower today, with the Sensex falling 289.69 points to 81,458.88 (-0.35%) and the Nifty dropping 72 points to 24,596.25 (-0.29%). Early gainers on the Sensex included Tata Motors, Adani Ports, and Tech Mahindra, while Reliance, Nestle India, and Bharti Airtel led the losses. The Sensex slipped further, falling nearly 900 points as losses deepened in Bharti Airtel, Reliance, L&T, and Axis Bank. The Nifty briefly fell below 24,400, touching a low of 24,383.75.

 Blackstone has emerged as the leading bidder in negotiations to acquire a 20 per cent stake in Haldiram Snacks, with a potential deal valued at around $1.6 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. The private equity giant is in talks to team up with Singapore's state investment firm GIC Pte and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) for the transaction, which could see India’s largest snack maker valued at $8 billion.

JSW Energy Secures Renewable Projects, Locked-In Capacity Hits 20 GW


JSW Energy has announced securing multiple renewable energy projects in the commercial and industrial (C&I) power market, taking its total locked-in generation capacity to 20 GW. According to the company, its locked-in C&I renewable capacity now stands at 3.1 GW, which includes 2,654 MW for JSW group captive use and 445 MW for third-party C&I consumers. The company further noted that its current operational C&I capacity is 488 MW.

Vedanta Dividend


On Monday, Anil Agarwal’s diversified mining giant, Vedanta , has declared a fourth interim dividend of Rs 8.5 per share for the financial year 2024-25. This decision, made at a board meeting on December 16, will see a total payout of Rs 3,324 crore, as per an official exchange filing.

This latest dividend brings Vedanta's total payout for FY25 to a notable Rs 16,799 crore. The record date for dividend distribution has been set for December 24, 2024. Payments will be made as per the stipulated schedule.

Wall Street Update

On Monday, the Dow slipped for the eighth consecutive day, marking its longest losing streak since 2018, while the Nasdaq managed to gain and hit a new record high. The S&P 500 also edged upward, showing modest strength.

Notably, the gains for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq came despite a pullback in market heavyweight Nvidia, which has struggled this month even as other chip stocks like Broadcom reached fresh highs.

Meanwhile, tech giants Alphabet, Apple, and Tesla all climbed to new all-time highs, with the tech and consumer discretionary sectors closing at record levels.

Now focused on the Federal Reserve’s final policy meeting of the year, with a rate decision expected at the conclusion of the two-day gathering on Wednesday.
