HDFC Bank Q3 FY25: India's Largest Private Lender Profit Rises 2.21% to Rs 16,736 Cr

HDFC Bank Q3 FY25: HDFC Bank Limited, India's largest private lender, reported a net profit of Rs 17,656.61 crore for the third quarter of FY2024-25, marking a 2.2% increase from Rs 16,372 crore in Q3FY24. Pre-Provision Operating Profit (PPoP) grew by 5.7% year-on-year to Rs 25,000 crore in Q3FY24, up from Rs 23,647 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. HDFC Bank's share price rose 1.3% intraday, reaching a high of Rs 1,663.4 per share, rebounding 2.3% from the day’s low of Rs 1,625.3.

HDFC Bank reported consolidated net revenue of Rs 65,280 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2024. Adjusted Profit After Tax (PAT), accounting for trading and mark-to-market gains, prior year one-off provisions, and tax credits, increased by 13.1%. Earnings per share for the quarter were Rs 23.1, with a book value per share of Rs 656.6 as of December 31, 2024.

The bank's total balance sheet size as of December 31, 2024, stood at Rs 37.590 trillion, compared to Rs 34.926 trillion a year earlier. Average deposits for the quarter were Rs 24.528 trillion.

Net interest income grew by 7.7% year-on-year to Rs 396.5 billion for the quarter, with a core net interest margin of 3.43% on total assets and 3.62% on interest-earning assets.

Other income for the quarter totaled Rs 114.5 billion, up from Rs 111.4 billion in the same period last year. This included fees and commissions of Rs 81.8 billion, net trading and mark-to-market gains of Rs 0.7 billion (compared to a gain of Rs 14.7 billion in the previous year's quarter), and miscellaneous income, including recoveries and dividends, amounting to Rs 17.9 billion (Rs 15.2 billion in the corresponding quarter of the previous year).
