8 of top-10 most valued firms' mcap jumps Rs 1.53 lakh crore; Airtel, Infosys top list

The BSE Sensex marked its ninth successive gain on Friday as the gauge edged up by 231.16 points or 0.28% to a record close of 82,365.77.

Mcap surge: The combined market capitalisation of eight of the top-10 most valuable companies in India surged by Rs 1,53,019.32 crore last week, driven by a strong rally in the equities market. Bharti Airtel and IT majors Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged as major gainers and reflected an overall uptrend in the stock valuations.

In the past week, the BSE benchmark index jumped by 1,279.56 points or 1.57 per cent. The BSE Sensex marked its ninth successive gain on Friday as the gauge edged up by 231.16 points or 0.28 per cent to a record close of 82,365.77. It reached an intra-day record high of 82,637.03, by rising 502.42 points or 0.61 per cent.

In terms of individual firm valuations:

  • Bharti Airtel added Rs 47,194.86 crore to take its market cap to Rs 9,04,587.12 crore.
  • Infosys jumped Rs 33,611.37 crore in valuation to Rs 8,06,880.50 crore.
  • Tata Consultancy Services added Rs 31,784.90 crore to take its market cap to Rs 16,46,899.17 crore.
  • ICICI Bank rose by Rs 18,734.30 crore in its valuation to Rs 8,66,374.41 crore.
  • Reliance Industries' market cap surged by Rs 13,396.42 crore to Rs 20,43,107.10 crore.
  • HDFC Bank jumped Rs 5,600.24 crore taking its market valuation to Rs 12,44,206.43 crore.
  • The market capitalisation of Life Insurance Corporation of India rose by Rs 2,340.25 crore to Rs 6,73,390.88 crore.
  • The valuation of State Bank of India advanced by Rs 356.98 crore to Rs 7,27,935.97 crore.

On the other hand, the market capitalisations of Hindustan Unilever and ITC fell. The valuation of Hindustan Unilever dipped by Rs 8,411.54 crore to Rs 6,52,739.95 crore while that of ITC fell by Rs 4,776.48 crore to Rs 6,27,587.76 crore.

Currently, Reliance Industries is the country's most valued firm, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Infosys, SBI, LIC, Hindustan Unilever and ITC.
