Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate, lay the foundation stone, and dedicate several major projects in Maharashtra on September 29, with a total investment exceeding Rs 11,200 crore, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on September 28.
The event, which will take place at 12:30 PM via video conferencing, will feature the inauguration of the final section of Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase 1), a crucial step in improving the city's urban transport. This newly constructed section, from the District Court to Swargate, has been completed at a cost of approximately Rs 1,810 crore. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Phase 1, an entirely underground 5.46 km stretch with three stations—Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj—estimated to cost Rs 2,955 crore.
Additionally, Modi will dedicate the Bidkin Industrial Area, part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, to the nation. Located 20 km south of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the industrial area covers 7,855 acres and is expected to stimulate economic development in the Marathwada region. Developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, the project is being executed in three phases with a total investment surpassing Rs 6,400 crore.
In a further boost to regional infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the upgraded Solapur Airport, now featuring a revamped terminal capable of handling 4.1 lakh passengers annually. The modernised facility is expected to enhance connectivity for business travellers, tourists, and investors in the region.
In a tribute to India’s legacy in women's education, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a memorial commemorating Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule's First Girls' School at Bhidewada. Savitribai Phule, a pioneering figure in women’s education, established the school, marking a significant moment in India's education reform movement.
