Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, visited Sonmarg ahead of the inauguration to review the preparations. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared his excitement about the project, highlighting that the tunnel will make Sonmarg accessible to visitors year-round. 

"The inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round," Abdullah wrote. He also mentioned that the region will be developed into a premier ski resort, creating new opportunities for adventure tourism.

The Z-Morh Tunnel will not only increase accessibility to Sonmarg, but it will also bring significant economic benefits to the region. 

The local population, who previously had to leave during harsh winters due to inaccessibility, will now be able to stay throughout the year. The tunnel will also reduce travel time to Kargil and Leh from Srinagar, further boosting regional connectivity.
