FM Sitharaman heads delegation at high-level bilateral meeting between India and Singapore

India-Singapore relations: A high-level delegation from the Indian side, led by the Finance Minister, has in-depth talks with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Monday, during which both sides discuss ways to further boost the strategic partnership between the two sides. They are currently discussing taking cooperation to be more in-depth in critical areas like digitalization, green, and skilling.
She also commended President Shanmugaratnam for his staunch support for multilateralism and an influential voice in calling for reforms, enabling governments and institutions to rise to the global challenges of past and current times. The finance ministry also observed this post on X and appreciated such contributions made by the President.
The minister also welcomed Shanmugaratnam's participation in the G20 Expert Group on Strengthening Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), especially while India assumes the Presidency of G20 during the year 2023. They appreciated that such contributions are particularly relevant in the present context of shaping global financial architecture.
The Indian delegation to the meeting had External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. It is part of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, a uniquely established mechanism for setting a forward-looking agenda in building relations between India and Singapore. The meeting was the first of its kind, held in New Delhi in September 2022.
Earlier in the day, the delegation also called on Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The two leaders discussed how to further reinforce and deepen the India-Singapore partnership, building on the commitment of both nations to a dynamic and broad-based relationship.
