NHPC and APGENCO collaborate joint venture to speed up renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh
Two important pumped storage schemes to be taken up in the initial phase of this joint venture are Yaganti with a capacity of 1000 MW and Rajupalem, an 800 MW.
Seeking to strengthen the state's renewable energy program, the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) entered into a joint venture agreement with NHPC, the state-owned power company. The deal was finalized on Saturday, and it would focus on pumped storage hydropower projects and other renewable energy developments in the state.
Two important pumped storage schemes to be taken up in the initial phase of this joint venture are Yaganti with a capacity of 1000 MW and Rajupalem, an 800 MW project. These would form major constituent parts of an energy storage solution hence better control generation of renewable energies and distribution. Beyond these discovery projects, more future renewable energy projects would be discovered in further stages, once again signifying the expansion of the state energy portfolio.
NHPC Chairman and Managing Director RK Chaudhary and APGENCO Managing Director KVN Chakradhar Babu signed the pact. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the event, meaning the state government wants renewable energy projects This collaboration with India will achieve the broader goal of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and attain Net Zero by 2070. In this aspect, this investment in clean energy technology makes Andhra Pradesh a player of importance in the renewable energy field.
The joint venture will bring together the expertise and resources of NHPC and APGENCO to improve energy security in the region while catering to sustainable development objectives. At this time, the message of green energy becomes the force that takes it up a notch toward sustainability in the energy future for Andhra Pradesh.
