Delhi Dehradun Expressway: Travel Time Of Just 2.5 Hours - Minister Shares Visuals

The expressway, spanning Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, offers 12 way-side amenities for passenger convenience.

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, set to open in January 2025, will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India shared the visuals of Highway X citing the advancements of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.


This 212-kilometer six-lane expressway is being built for Rs 12,000 crore, promising a smoother and faster commute for people.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Key Features 


The expressway, spanning Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, offers 12 way-side amenities for passenger convenience. Special provisions include a 340-meter, three-lane tunnel at Datkali in Dehradun, costing  Rs 1,995 crore, and a 12-kilometre elevated road dedicated to wildlife protection.


The highway has several additional features that include:

  • Wildlife Provisions: Six animal underpasses, two elephant underpasses, and 15 major and minor bridges.
  • Safety Infrastructure: 113 underpasses, five road-over bridges (ROBs), and 62 bus shelters to enhance traffic flow and safety.
  • Connectivity Enhancements: A 76-km service road, 29-km elevated road, and 16 entry-exit points.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Connectivity to Haridwar


Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will connect to Haridwar making a significant attraction for religious travellers. A 51-km six-lane Greenfield road, costing  Rs 2,095 crore, will connect the expressway to Haridwar, further boosting regional connectivity.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Government Insights


Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, during a site visit in June 2024, commended the progress. He highlighted the expressway’s role in decongesting East Delhi's Gandhi Nagar and reducing traffic on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.


This expressway marks a milestone in improving connectivity, enhancing safety, and promoting ease of travel for commuters across the region.
