In a major step forward in building India's law enforcement capabilities, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will tomorrow launch 'BHARATPOL', a portal that will change the nature of international cooperation between Indian agencies in a criminal investigation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to dedicate the platform to the nation at a function to be held in Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared his excitement about the launch on Twitter, writing: “Tomorrow is going to be a landmark day, as the BHARATPOL portal, developed by the CBI, will be launched. It will give a new edge to our investigation agencies by enhancing their global reach to fulfil the Modi government's vision to build a secure Bharat for all. I am looking forward to attending the program.”

The BHARATPOL portal, modeled along the lines of the global policing network INTERPOL, will facilitate Indian investigation agencies clicking a button for real-time records of wanted accused individuals. It will thus facilitate the integrated platform to streamline the exchange of information and coordination between state and union territory police forces and central agencies for international assistance in criminal matters. It will enable smooth requests for international cooperation, including the issuance of Red Notices and other INTERPOL notices.

The growing threats from transnational crimes such as cybercrime, financial fraud, online radicalization, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and organized crime require swift and coordinated international assistance. BHARATPOL aims to provide an essential tool for Indian law enforcement agencies in tackling these challenges, allowing them to access international assistance quickly and efficiently.

Earlier, requests for international cooperation were dealt with by ILOs in the CBI through letters, emails, and faxes. The new portal will simplify these communications and help reduce the pending issues related to such requests.

The BHARATPOL portal is a significant step forward in India's ability to combat global crime, which is part of the government's overall vision of ensuring national security through increased international cooperation.
