Deepinder Goyal, CEO of the food delivery platform Zomate apologised for charging Rs 2 fee for enabling veg-mode and said that it is "stupid on our part."

A LinkedIn user, Rohit Ranjan took to posting on X and said, "Being a vegetarian🌽🥬🥑🥝 in India these days feels like curse!"

"Zomato’s latest masterstroke—introducing an "extra charge" for the veg enablement fleet—has officially turned us into a premium subscription plan," he added in his post.

The user also sarcastically thanked the food-delivery platform for proving once again "that being veg is now a luxury tax!"

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal's Response

Responding to this post, Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato commented, "This is absolutely stupid on our part. I am super sorry for this. This charge will be removed today itself. Will also fix what's needed to fix in the team so that such s**t doesn't happen again. Thank you for pointing this out."

The app did not show veg-mode enablement fee afterwards.

Rohit Rajan, the complainant, is assistant vice president of e-commerce at Route To Market.

He later expressed his astonishment to Goyal's apology and said, "Bringing a vegetarian cruising concept in India was undoubtedly a bold and unconventional move."
