Tesla's self-driven cars can find owners in a tight parking spot, Elon Musk posts on X
Your Tesla can now drive itself through complex parking lots to find you, Musk wrote on X.
Highlighting the concept of Self-Driven Cars, Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating that the new-age vehicle can maneuver through a busy parking lot on its own to locate the driver.
“Your Tesla can now drive itself through complex parking lots to find you,” Musk wrote on X.
The video originally posted from the X handle @AIDRIVR shows Tesla ’s Self-Driven Car negotiate turns and move across a parking space.
“new & improved Actually Smart Summon makes Costco look easy,” said the Tweet.
Known by different names such as an autonomous car (AC), driverless car, robotaxi, robotic car or robo-car, a self-driving car is a vehicle that is capable of operating with reduced or no human input.
Self-driving cars are responsible for all driving activities, such as perceiving the environment, monitoring important systems, and controlling the vehicle, which includes navigating from origin to destination.
Last week, Tesla said it will launch its “Full Self Driving” driver assistance product in Europe and China early next year.
The shares of Tesla were up by 6 per cent after the electric vehicle maker updated customers on the international rollout of Full Self-Driving.
Notably, Tesla is yet to receive regulatory permission to launch its FSD product in Europe and China. However, Musk in July said that he expects to get this clearance by the end of 2024.
Full Self-driving has been pivotal in Musk’s strategy to make Tesla a more AI-centric company and push toward self-driving technology.
Despite claims of driverless driving, FSD in reality is not capable of making its vehicles fully autonomous. A driver is still required to sit behind the wheel and keep their eyes on the roads, as well as take over when needed.
FSD is an upgrade to Tesla ’s Autopilot driver assistant, which is already available in Europe and China. Tesla currently offers a premium option called Enhanced Autopilot in China.
Since 2016, Musk has promised investors that Tesla will deliver technology capable of making its existing cars drive entirely by themselves.
