Infosys to onboard 1,000 freshers from 2022 batch after 2.5-year delay: NITES
The roles offered are for System Engineers, with the onboarding scheduled for October 7, 2024.
Infosys onboards freshers: Infosys is set to finally honour the offer letters of over 1,000 campus hires from the 2022 batch, after a significant delay of more than 2.5 years, according to the IT employee union, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES).
NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja highlighted the resolution. “After nearly two years of waiting, these young engineers now have a confirmed joining date of October 7, 2024. This is a huge win for NITES and all the students who stood strong in the face of uncertainty and delay," NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja said,” he said.
Union vows vigilance
The roles offered are for System Engineers, with the onboarding scheduled for October 7, 2024. The candidates, who were initially recruited in 2022, were required to complete two pre-training sessions in 2024, the most recent of which concluded on August 19.
Saluja stressed the union’s continued vigilance, saying "However, we remain vigilant... if Infosys fails to honour this commitment and breaches the joining date, we will not hesitate to organise a protest right in front of the Infosys office."
NITES had previously filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment against Infosys for delaying the onboarding of 2,000 engineering graduates selected for System Engineer and Digital Specialist Engineer roles during the 2022-23 recruitment cycle.
Commitment to freshers
Infosys CEO Salil Parekh assured that the company would honour the offers made to the freshers, though there might be minor adjustments to the joining dates. “Every offer we’ve extended will be honoured. While some dates might be adjusted, everyone will eventually join Infosys,” Parekh told PTI.
The situation first came to light when Infosys contacted candidates who had been offered positions in 2020. Concerns about the multiple pre-training sessions and assessments have caused unease amongst the candidates regarding the hiring process.
The salary for the System Engineer role is set at Rs 3.6 lakh per annum, while the Digital Specialist Engineer role offers Rs 6.5 lakh per annum, as reported.
NITES, based in Pune, has urged the Ministry of Labour & Employment to investigate Infosys for the “exploitation and unprofessional treatment” of the 2,000 engineering graduates selected for the 2022-23 recruitment drive.
