Nissan halts EV production: Nissan Motor Co has decided to halt its plans for producing electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States, according to Automotive News report. This decision was communicated to auto suppliers through a memo.

Reportedly, the Japanese automaker has made adjustments to its development timeline for certain battery-powered sedans and has instructed suppliers to suspend any development activities related to these projects until further notice.

Nissan did not responded to a request for comment from Reuters regarding this matter.

The development comes amid lower-than-anticipated demand for EVs, leading global automakers to reassess their ambitious electrification strategies and divert focus towards hybrids and traditional gas-powered models instead.

In March, Nissan had outlined its intentions to expedite its transition to EVs worldwide, with plans to introduce seven new electric models in the United States by 2026 and establish an EV manufacturing hub in the country.
