Performance hatchbacks in India: The hatchback segment in India has been popular and a priority of customers while considering a car. There were regular hatchbacks that offered decent performance and were oriented toward comfort, but there were hatchbacks that focused on performance only. In recent times, there has been a surge in the affordable performance segment of hatchbacks, providing stellar performance and decent comfort. Tata Altroz Racer has recently entered the Indian market, with a more punchy turbo petrol engine. The Altroz Racer is based on the regular Altroz but has updated interiors and feature lists over the Altroz. The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre inline three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, that produces 120 BHP and 170 Nm torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It mainly rivals the Hyundai I20 N-Line in its segment, having similar power figures. Since the Altroz Racer is the most affordable hatchback, it has a starting price of Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the R1 variant.

The most expensive performance hatchback: Mercedes-AMG A-Class Hatchback

Mercedes-AMG A-Class Hatchback is currently the most expensive performance hatchback in India. The A-Class hatchback comes in a single variant, A45 S, and has the most powerful four-cylinder turbo petrol engine on a production car. The A45 S has multiple customisation options as per the customer's requirement. The A45 S is powered by a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 306b BHP and 400 Nm torque mated to an eight-speed torque converter gearbox. As the name suggests, it gets 4MATIC AWD technology with AMG torque control. Since the Mercedes AMG A45 S is the most expensive performance hatchback currently available in India, it has a price tag of Rs 93.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
